Musky Shop Northwoods Fishing Report: Early February 2026

As we reach the halfway point of February, there's encouraging light at the end of the winter tunnel. Fingers crossed that the season doesn't extend into late April or early May—but only time will tell.

Ice fishing has been productive across the Minocqua area. Most lakes currently feature 24–28 inches of solid ice, with some snow cover on top, though travel remains manageable for ATVs, snowmobiles, and even trucks in many spots.

Deep, Clear Lakes: Shallow Weed Beds Producing

On deeper, clearer lakes, walleyes, panfish (bluegills, crappies, perch), and northern pike are holding fairly shallow in weed beds, typically in the 5–8 foot range. Some fish may venture to weed edges, but the bulk of the action has stayed right in the greener weeds lately—likely due to good oxygen levels and forage availability.

Best Presentation: Tip-ups are currently dominating.

• For walleyes and pike: Medium and large golden shiners, walleye suckers, and pike suckers are producing excellent results.
• For panfish: XL fatheads, crappie minnows, red spikes, white spikes, jumbo wax worms, and rosy red minnows are all highly effective.

Stock up on fresh live bait and ice fishing gear at the Musky Shop—always kept in cold, running well water for maximum liveliness.

Shallow, Darker Lakes: Slightly Deeper Weed Edges

On shallower, darker-stained lakes, walleyes, panfish, and pike are also relating to weeds and weed edges, but often a bit deeper in the 6–10 foot range.

Top Bait Choices for Panfish: Rosy reds, crappie minnows, and XL fatheads shine, with red spikes, white spikes, and jumbo wax worms worth packing as well. For Walleyes and Pike: Walleye suckers, pike suckers, and medium- and large-sized golden shiners remain standout options.
